Who is Johann? I was born on 20 November 1966 in Bellville Cape town. I am the eldest of 5 children and have two brothers and two sisters. I travelled a lot as a result of my dad being in the defence force and went to 4 different primary schools! I started school at the Simon van der Stel Primary school in Wynberg, Cape Town; then we moved to Pretoria where I went to Paratus Primary school. We then moved to Grootfontein in now Namibia where I went to Wilhelm Nortier Primary School and I finished grade 7 (st5) in Pretoria again at the Paratus Primary School. I am currently divorced and have two daughters who were in me and my wife's foster care since the age of 2. We accepted them as our own because we could not have children of our own. I still maintain good contact with my wife and my children.
What is your professional background? After school I joined the SA Defence Force and in my second year there I started studying for the diploma in State Accounts and Finance at the Technicon of Pretoria (now called the Tswane University of Technology). I rose through the ranks year on year and in my final year of study I got elected as one of the elite in the defence force to attend the Military Academy in Saldanha where I studied the BMil (Bachelor’s degree in Managerial Sciences). I later went on to study an educational diploma as well as a Resource Management Course at the USA Army in Monterey. By the end of my career in the Army (I took early retirement) I was at the rank of Brigadier General. I bought a business, but was not successful and lost all my pension in the process. I then had to start from scratch again and worked as waiter, technician then credit controller for ADT, Tax Consultant for Blignaut & Associates (where I qualified as accountant and got my membership from the SA Institute of Business Accountant (SAIBA) and lastly Tax and Accounting Manager at Reach Out Financial Services in Pretoria till the owner decided to sell and move to Australia. I then decided to start working for myself.
Why did you join the SLi Team Lelemba responded to my advertisement on Gumtree for accounting and tax consulting services. When I met her my first impressions were very positive and I immediately felt at home in her company. I realised that here was someone very professional but who also has time for other people. I later met Sandras and he inspired me so much that I would not have it in any other way but to be part of this team. It is great to work with such positive, inspiring and highly motivational people. I immediately committed myself to rendering services of the very highest standard which this team expects and it has really been great to be part of their team ever since.
What are your future plans? My future plans are to expand my practice because I have the ability, experience and knowledge to do that. To get people working for me and help others by creating work for them. So I am currently looking to grow my client base and also concentrate on business accounting and taxes. Most of my clients at this stage are individuals and I need to find a balance between business clients and individual clients.
